The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1998 forward John Moncovich has been named USPHL Elite Offensive Player of the Week for his performance this past weekend at the USPHL Winter Showcase in Estero, FL.

Moncovich (Wilmington, NC), had a monster weekend in Florida, helping propel the Whalers Elite team to a 3-0-1 record, and collecting 7 of 8 points. The 1998 forward tallied 9 goals and 1 assist in 4 games for the Whalers, including 2 game winning goals and 2 power play goals. Moncovich scored the only 2 goals in Sundays OT loss to Atlanta to propel him to 40 goals on the season. His 40 goals not only lead the team, but also the USPHL Elite division, 14 more than the 2nd highest scorer. In addition to ranking 1 overall in the league in goals scored, Moncovich ranks 2 in overall points to only his teammate Brandon Osmundson, who leads the league in points and assists. Moncovich also ranks 2 in the league in power play goals with 8 and 1 in the league in game winning goals with 7.

Moncovich is the 4th Whalers forward to earn the offensive player of the week honor, joining Brandon Osmundson and Billy Brock who received the honor on back to back weeks in September, and Roman Gaudet who took home the honor last week.
