Whalers Grab 7 Wins at USPHL Winter Showcase

USP3 9-1 Win vs. Boston Jr. Bruins

For the Whalers USP3 team they would face perennial USPHL power, the Boston Jr. Bruins to open the showcase. The Whalers offense started fast and was relentless all game en route to a 9-1 win.

Ryan Lorenz posted a hat-trick, Matthew Hanchon notched a pair of goals, while Noah Kramer, Gary Eastlack, Caelan Bolanowski, and Max Loga each posted 1. Gary Eastlack racked up 4 helpers, while Collin Markoski had 3 assists, Cody Wilson and Adam Campbell had 2, Jacob Ward, Tanner Davis, Jaymen Swygert, Caelan Bolanowski, Max Loga, Trevor Byers, and Everett Yasinski each posted 1. Yasinksi took the win in net with 28 saves.

The Whalers held a 37-29 shot on goal advantage. The Whalers were 3 for 6 on the power play, while Boston was 0 for 4.

Elite 8-0 Win vs. Rochester Monarchs

The Whalers offense re-discovered their spark early and often at the USPHL Winter Showcase. In game 1 they faced off with the North’s 3 team in the Rochester Monarchs and handled them 8-0.

Vaden McManus, Andriy Denyskin, and Brandon Osmundson each posted 2 goals apiece while Tianyou Zuo and John Moncovich each had 1. Billy Brock dished out 4 helpers, while Brandon Osmundson had 2, Brendon Zack, Nick Richards, Andriy Denyskin, Colton Seeman, Nick Richards, Trent Wydrowski, and Conner Hunt had 1. Alec Lindberg picked up his first win in net as a Whalers as well as his first shutout.

The Whalers held a 50-10 shot advantage. The Whalers finished 3 for 5 on the power play while Rochester was 0 for 1.

Elite 10-1 Win vs. Detroit Fighting Irish

The Elite offense didn’t let up Friday night in game 2 of the weekend, tallying 8 first half goals en route to a 10-1 shellacking of the Detroit Fighting Irish.

John Moncovich posted a hat trick, Nick Richards scored a pair, while Andriy Denyskin, Billy Brock, Colton Seeman, Tianyou Zuo, and Conner Hunt with his 1st as a Whaler each had 1. Zach Alvarado posted his 7th win of the season in net with 30 saves.

The Whalers held a 53-31 shot on goal advantage. Hampton Roads went 1 for 3 on the power play while Detroit was 0 for 1.

USP3 4-3 Loss vs. Jersey Hitmen

Game 2 for the USP3 team saw them face-off with the North’s 2nd place team, the Jersey Hitmen. The Whalers posted a strong effort, leading 2-1 after the 1st half, but discipline problems and 3 quick 2nd half goals proved to be the difference while the Hitmen goaltending kept the Whalers many quality chances at bay in a 4-3 loss.

Noah Kramer, Gary Eastlack, and Max Loga each posted a goal for the Whalers. Jonah Lainesse, Ryan Lorenz, Adam Campbell, and Caelan Bolanowski each notched an assist. Everett Yasinksi surrendered 4 goals in defeat, Steve McGuire allowed none in 12:29 of relief.

The Hitmen went 2 for 4 on the power play while the Whalers went 0 for 4. Shots were even at 31. Elite 11-0 Win vs. Bay State Breakers

The Elite team got some rest after kicking off the showcase with 2 games before playing the Bay State Breakers Saturday afternoon in their only game of the day. The Whalers offense continued to hum along as they scored 5 first half goals and 6 in the second half for a 11-0 win. Combined with last season’s 19-0 win over the Breakers, the Whalers have outscored Bay State 30-0 in the last two contests.

Andriy Denyskin scored 4 goals, Brandon Osmundson scored 3, John Moncovich added 2, while Brendon Zack and Colton Seeman each had 1. Billy Brock posted his 2nd 4 assist game of the weekend, Vaden McManus had 3, Nick Richards, Conner Hunt, Tianyou Zuo, and Brandon Osmundson had 2, while Brendon Zack, Colton Seeman, John Moncovich, and Trent Wydrowski had 1 apiece. Alec Lindberg posted another win and shutout in net.

The Whalers outshot the Breakers 30-21. Neither team had a power play opportunity.

USP3 3-1 Win vs. Jersey Shore Whalers

Game 3 pitted two tired looking hockey teams in a game of will and determination as both teams played on 4:30 hours of rest. The Whalers took advantage of some sloppy Jersey Shore defense and shut down the North’s highest scoring team en route to a 3-1 win.

Gary Eastlack, Ryan Lorenz, and Caelan Bolanowski each posted 1 goal. Max Loga, Noah Kramer, Jacob Ward, and Adam Campbell each notched an assist. Steve McGuire made 20 saves in victory.

The Whalers held a 23-21 shot on goal advantage. Hampton Roads went 0 for 2 on the power play while Jersey Shore didn’t have a man advantage.

USP3 5-1 Win vs. Daytona Racers

The final game of the weekend, the Whalers rebounded from a slow start with 3 late 1st half goals and 2 more in the final half for a 5-1 win against former Whaler Nathan Cleghorn and the Daytona Racers.

Max Loga scored twice, Adam Campbell, Cody Wilson, and Caelan Bolanowski scored once. Ryan Lorenz had 2 helpers, Gary Eastlack, Matthew Hanchon, Tyler Dienna, Trevor Byers, and Adam Campbell each had 1. Steve McGuire picked up his 2nd win of the weekend in net with 20 saves.

The Whalers held a 25-21 shot on goal advantage. Daytona was 1 for 3 on the power play, Hampton Roads was 0 for 1.

Elite 4-1 Win vs. P.A.L. Islanders

The final game saw the Whalers have to battle from behind early as the P.A.L. Islanders scored just 5 minutes in to take a 1-0 lead and the Islanders goalie made several key saves before Billy Brock finally got the Whalers rolling late in the half to propel the team to a 4-1 win.

Captain Brendon Zack scored twice on top of Brocks goal and another from John Moncovich. Moncovich, Brock, and Brandon Osmundson each tallied 2 helpers while Colton Seeman had 1. Zach Alvarado notched his second win of the weekend and 8th of the season in net with 20 saves.

The Whalers had a 24-21 shot on goal advantage. The Whalers were 0 for 3 on the power play while P.A.L. was 0 for 4.
