Whalers Horn Commits to LTU

The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1997 forward John Horn from Chesapeake, VA has committed to playing college hockey in 2018 for the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils.

Horn, a home grown product, posted 3 goals and 10 assists this season, good for 13 points in 50 games, helping lead the Whalers Premier team to the 2017-18 USPHL Premier National Championship. In his 4 junior seasons in Hampton Roads, Horn has competed in 181 career games, tallying 69 points on 28 goals and 41 assists.

“John has been a part of the Whaler family through out his hockey career.”, stated head coach Rod Taylor. “He was on two championship teams for the Premier team. He has goal scoring ability and good hands with a strong shot. He is a great team mate that will be missed around Whaler Nation. I congratulate John on his commitment to Lawrence Tech. Wishing him much success in his hockey and academic career”.

“John represents Whaler Nation’s day one commitment to our membership and the Hampton Roads Region”, stated Whalers GM Patrick Cavanagh. "He has trained as a Whaler since day 1 and finishes his career in Hampton Roads as a 2 time USPHL Champion. His advancement to LTU under Coach Gaffney opens new opportunities in the next chapter of his athletic/scholastic journey. It’s certainly a prideful day for John, his Family and all of Whaler Nation”.

“I am excited to further my education while continuing to play hockey at Lawrence Technological University (LTU)”, stated Horn. “I am extremely thankful to the Whaler organization for providing me every opportunity to develop as a player and a person. To be able to play with one organization for my entire junior career and watching the organization grow to be the powerhouse of the league is something I am privileged to have been a part of”.

Lawrence Tech is located in Southfield, MI and competes in the ACHA’s National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Horn becomes the Whalers 12th commit of the 2017-18 season joining Sean Dickson (Utica), Brandon Osmundson (Utica), John Moncovich (Uitca), Jaxon Rutkowski (Utica), Riley Wagner (Concordia), Zach Zalar (West Point), Viacheslav Goev (Watertown FHL), Everett Yasinski (Iowa State), Ryan Lorenz (FGCU), Caelan Bolanowski (FGCU), and Gary Eastlack (Kentucky).
